Dec 2006

I am installing some work at the 911 Media Arts Gallery. The
pieces will be up from January 12th till the
24th. The pieces installed will include my
Milhouse piece in addition to
some other pieces using appropriated video
footage.
I am currently working on updating this site with more work. I just added "I Wanna Be a Nurse Shark", otherwise known as my Milhouse piece as well as the photowork "How to Make a Drawing with a Lightbulb (8 feet) and a Slab of Concrete".
In addition to the work updates, I am creating an additional archive based off of the mediums of the work. This isn't ready just yet, but will probably keep my work organised in media based categories that I feel are most pertanent to the pieces. The categories will probably be sound, video, photography and paper. I will continue to keep things organised by date, but will have the additional archive as a way to hopefully get a broader understanding of my work.

911 Media Arts Center Artist Talk
December/08/06 12:42
Next Thursday, December 14th, at 7pm, my friend Caleb Larsen and I will giving talks about our work at the 911 Media Arts Center here in Seattle. This is through an organization called Upgrade, which aims to bring together New Media based artists around the world.
In addition to the talk next week, Caleb and I are also going to be producing an exhibition in the 911 Gallery Space. The show will be called "Mass Mass Media" . Here is the press release, which is much more articulate:
"Mass Mass Media" is a joint effort between Seattle artists Brett Walker and Caleb Larsen. Both artists maintain a fascination with language and draw from elements of day-to-day life. While aesthetically dissimilar, conceptual elements link Walker and Larsen's work. In their work they examine, emphasize, deconstruct, and re-purpose elements of contemporary life and imbue them with humor, mine them for interconnectivity, or simply recontextualize them to provide a new perspective.
This exhibition will be split into two distinct shows in the 911 MAC Gallery. From December 14th - January 10th Larsen will be presenting a suite of multimedia projects. From January 10th - January 24th Walker will present a group of large scale video projects.
Two Things for the Week of December 4th
December/03/06 12:05
Two things are going on this week. The first is that I am going to be showing some drawings with my friend Brian Barber. This happens Thursday, December 7th at 7 p.m. The show will take place at the Artist Reformation Project, on the 3rd floor of the building at 619 Western. This is a block west of 1st and Yesler and will take place during the First Thursday Art Walk.
The second thing is that I am screening my "40 Feet of Bread" film at a Wholphin DVD screening. The screening is at Third Place Books in Ravenna, which is located at 6504 20th Ave NE. This takes place at 6 PM on Friday, December 8.
